You will see God in this Lifetime

Radhanath Swami narrated that in 1978, Bhakti Tirtha Swami was in India. At that time in history, not a single foreigner had ever been inside Jagannath’s temple in Puri, in the state of Orissa. Bhakti Tirtha Swami had been once told by his guru that in this lifetime he would see God. So he thought, “Maybe I will see God as Lord Jagannath in this temple.” He had a black complexion and thought perhaps the ever vigilant temple priests at Puri may think he is from from South India and they would allow him in. He tied a towel around his head to look Indian. There were big crowds, and he walked right by the gatekeeper. He went deeper and there was a massive crowd, thousands of people near the main altar of God. At that time, Bhakti Tirtha Swami thought, “If they catch me now they are going to really beat me, I don’t know what will happen”.

All of a sudden, the pandas, the official door keepers in the temple stopped the crowed and began choosing people that they thought had money and called them forward. One of them called Bhakti Tirtha Swami Maharaj forward, “You come.” He spoke in Oriya language, and Bhakti Tirtha Swami was afraid because if the panda spoke to him, he would be caught because he only spoke English. The person started asking questions. Bhakti Tirtha Swami couldn’t understand a word. He just remained silent and was praying to the Lord. The person brought him right up to the altar and pushed his head right on the altar, and let him stand there to offer his prayers of love. He then took him to circumambulate the temple, and meanwhile so many other pandas tried to get money from him but this one panda was saying, “He is mine, he is mine.”

After he had this amazing experience,, the panda who was actually the chief priest of the temple called him out and spoke to him in English, “I know who you are. I don’t agree that you people shouldn’t be allowed in the temple, so I have arranged this audience for you with the Lord.

Bhakti Tirtha Swami was so overwhelmed with this divine spiritual experience that the next day he thought he would do it again. However this time the pandas discovered he was not an Indian, and they started screaming at him and chasing him and Bhakti Tirtha Swami ran. He narrowly escaped and realized we should be satisfied by what God has given us.

Radhanath Swami says that Bhakti Tirtha Swami was the first foreigner to have ever personally got the audience of the Lord at Jagganath Puri. His guru’s prophecy had indeed come true “You will see God in this lifetime.”

The old man looked up, stared at me, and then looked down again at the paper. “One thousand years ago,” he said, “you were a king in Karnataka. You were very wealthy and distributed much of your wealth to hospitals, schools, and temples. At end of that life you retired to the forest.

“In your previous birth you had two wives. At the end of that life you prayed, ‘If I take birth again I don’t want to be a grhastha. I want to be a sannyasi and devote all my life to God.’ So in this birth you took sannyasa at the age of 29. Correct?”

“Yes sir,” I replied. “Correct.”

“It is the result of your previous actions and desires,” he said. “In this birth you’ll get immense blessings from your spiritual master.Because your chosen path is bhakti you won’t take birth again. You’ll be liberated at the end of this life. You’ll live into old age, and you’ll die a natural death. You won’t die from a prolonged illness.”

A Real Christian finds Krsna

At the Friday-night harinam in Auckland, I was lurking around the peripheries of the devotees and talking to passersby. I saw a respectable-looking Maori woman sitting on the steps of Aotea Square watching the harinam. I felt a bit intimidated to talk to her, as she held herself with gravity and had a look on her face which I grossly mistook to be fear or at the least distaste. I approached her anyway, and in response to my attempts at small talk, she reached into her handbag and pulled out “Journey of Self-Discovery”.

With wide, hopeful eyes she asked, “Are you the people who sell these books?”

It turns out that she has an amazing story. Patty was a dedicated Christian pastor, all set to be ordained. She decided, before making this commitment, that she wanted to broaden her knowledge about God by studying theology at a university. Meeting a book distributor on the street, she thought that the book could be useful in her thesis.

A Happy Lord Nrisimhadev appearance day.

It is rightly said that today the world has "guided missiles and unguided minds". We hear of immunization programs for children from the time of birth for prevention of various diseases. But this is just immunization to protect the body from diseases. What about immunization to the subtle body (mind)? The world (scientific community) has no such program. Lord Nrisimhadev's appearance is to protect or shield us from the demoniac nature.

The Lord takes the dual role: one the ferocious form and the other of compassion and love. The ferocious form is for the demoniac nature and the loving form is for the divine nature. In Kali-yuga both these forms are within us. However, due to illusion all of us declare ourselves to be a "righteous" person unmindful of the demon within us.

On this important occasion may we all seek the blessings of Lord Nrisimhadev to give us the immunization from insanity which the whole world is suffering from of "I and mine". Otherwise due to influence of Kali, the Hiranyakashipu (demoniac nature) within us will drag us into so many scams and ..gates in the news today. Unfortunately, due to greed it is the so-called moneyed class which is filling the jails.

In fact, the secular government (sic) should declare today as a holiday and force its citizens to attend the immunization camps. Unfortunately, no Bachan or Shahrukh Khan will be willing to promote these immunization camps. So as devotees let us encourage everyone around us to go to this immunization camps setup by ISKCON.

Let us pray to Lord Nrisimhadev so that the UN declares His appearance day as "Immunization day against insanity".
