South African harinamas in April

Into the Townships (April 15)

Tomorrow we will be taking a group of devotees to do harinama and prasadam  distribution in nearby Zululand.

Shanty Town Kirtan (April 18)

Yesterday we distributed prasadam and had harinama through one of South  Africa's worst ghettos. Rife with crime and steeped in poverty, the  atmosphere in the dilapidated shanty town was miserable. But as we wove our  way through the tiny streets and lanes with harinama in the pouring rain,  people came to life and chanted and danced in great joy along side us. When  we distributed prasadam, their bliss knew no bounds. All glories to Sri  Krsna Samkirtan!

April 23

In 1975, Srila Prabhupada appreciated the innovative marching band at the  Ratha Yatra in Melbourne, Australia. Following suit, yesterday we opened the  Kwazulu, Durban Ratha Yatra with a group of exuberant Zulu dancers. The  people loved them!

April 24

BB Govinda Maharaja was in top form leading kirtan at the Durban Ratha Yatra  over the weekend. Madhava prabhu was assisting playing mridunga and the Zulu  and Indian devotees were dancing up a storm.

April 25

Devotee kids doing kirtan - Soweto style - at the Festival of  Chariots in Durban over the weekend. The words are purely Krsna conscious...  but the dancing is unique to Africa :)

United In The Rainbow Nation (April 26)

South Africa has been called the Rainbow Nation because of its  diverse ethnic pulation. Over the Easter weekend people of all colors,  creeds and faiths joined together to celebrate the 23rd Festival of Chariots
on the Durban beachfront. The event demonstrated that peace and harmony are  possible amongst the people of South Africa. Srila Prabhupada once called  Krsna consciousness, the United Nations of the Spiritual World.
