A screening of Hare Krishna! The Mantra, the Movement and the Swami Who Started It All drew approximately 250 people to Suncoast CineCentre in Durban, South Africa, in September. Hosted by ISKCON Durban as part of the movement’s 60th-anniversary commemorations, the in-person event attracted an audience largely new to ISKCON, according to project leader Smita Krsna Das, with responses indicating greater appreciation of Founder-Acharya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada’s life and mission.
Smita Krsna identified Deputy Minister Narend Singh among the dignitaries attending, alongside religious leaders, community leaders and members of the public. He described the screening as the conclusion of the anniversary festival effort and credited both external supporters and a volunteer team with making it possible. “It was inspiring to note the majority of attendees were new people,” he said. “Comments, some of which were captured on video, indicated an emotional response to Srila Prabhupada and his mission, and a deeper appreciation for his struggles and achievements.”
