A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked Southeast Asia on Friday. Thousands are feared dead as emergency workers and locals begin searching for survivors in the miles of toppled buildings left behind. The quake’s epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, and was felt hundreds of miles away in neighboring countries. In light of this disaster, ISKCON Myanmar has shared an official statement with ISKCON News updating the devotee community on the impact, including the situation of their temples, devotees, and relief efforts.

ISKCON Myanmar Official Statement on the Recent Earthquake
March 28, 2025
With profound sorrow, ISKCON Myanmar extends heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies to all those affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and neighboring Thailand today. This powerful earthquake, measuring 7.7 in magnitude, has caused widespread destruction, loss of life, and immense suffering, particularly in Mandalay, Sagaing, Naypyidaw, and other regions.
Tragically, this disaster has also significantly impacted our ISKCON communities. Many devotees have been affected, with some sustaining injuries and facing severe losses. Additionally, several of our properties have suffered damage, including Sri Sri Radha Govinda Mandir (ISKCON Mandalay) and our Goshala in Zeyadwdi. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Beyond our own communities, countless individuals across Myanmar and Thailand are enduring immense hardship due to the destruction of homes, loss of loved ones, and critical injuries. The suffering in affected regions is severe, and many are in urgent need of relief and assistance.
In this difficult time, ISKCON Myanmar stands in solidarity with all those affected and continues to offer fervent prayers for the well-being of those impacted by this disaster. As devotees of the Lord, we recognize the importance of extending both spiritual and practical support. Therefore, we humbly urge the international devotee community, well-wishers, and humanitarian organizations to come forward in prayer and assistance.
We request devotees worldwide to pray for the affected souls and offer their support in whatever way possible. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those suffering due to this calamity.
May Sri Sri Radha Govinda bestow Their divine mercy upon all those affected and give them strength in this time of trial.
On behalf of ISKCON Myanmar,
