A GOOD NUMBER by Bhaktimarga Swami

With everything melting, such as ice and snow, it makes for slippery conditions.  That’s where Karuna Sindhu lost a little control and slid in the mud, soiling coat and pants.  He was a mess.  But it was only mud.  It is mud that a Vaishnava applies to the forehead and other upper parts of the body, forming the shape of Krishna’s lotus foot, not just for décor or facial design.  It is an image that protects us from maya’s influence.

Anyone who sees the image on the forehead referred to as tilak, is seeing something auspicious.  That stamp on the bridge of the nose (to be more precise) is simply a reminder of God.

We need reminders, don’t you think?

At Christie Pits it was prearranged for us to meet Billie and Elise who reside just a block away from Bloor and Christie.  Billie works with autistic kids and Elise is a musician.  The sun was on our backs creating a warmth that was most inviting.  The four of us were truly relishing the art of katha as well.  Katha refers to discussions on devotional topics.

What was really interesting for me was the record I achieved in numbers of steps.  It came to a total of 12,345.  Yes, that many steps were a dedication to the mission of spreading a higher consciousness.
