Devotees gathered at Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir, ISKCON Vrindavan on September 5 to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the appearance of ISKCON Founder-Acharya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The five-hour Vyasa-puja program opened with a recorded 1976 Srimad-Bhagavatam lecture by Srila Prabhupada, followed by his historic 1936 offering to his spiritual master, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura. In that address, Srila Prabhupada explained the universal position of the bona fide spiritual master and emphasized humanity’s need for spiritual knowledge.
Numerous disciples shared personal memories and reflections on Srila Prabhupada’s teachings, compassion, books, and worldwide mission. Other speakers emphasized faith in guru and Krishna, cooperation among devotees, the importance of hearing and distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books, and his ability to make profound spiritual teachings accessible and practical. Several also encouraged younger generations to seek the association of Srila Prabhupada’s remaining disciples and preserve their memories.
Throughout the program, speakers returned to Srila Prabhupada’s desire that his followers work together to spread Krishna consciousness and help bring spiritual life into homes worldwide. They described service to his mission as a source of shelter and urged devotees to carry his teachings forward with humility, compassion and unity.
