2/3 cup red split dhal1/3 cup bengal gram or split yellow peas4 green chillies1 tsp ground turmeric3 tomatoes chopped fine4 tbsp ghee1/2 tsp mustard seeds1/2 tsp cumin seeds1-1/2 teaspoon asofoetida6 curry leaves2 dried red chilliessalt to taste1 tbsp fresh cilantro for garnishPlace the lentils, split peas, green chillies, turmeric and water in a pan and bring to a boil. Simmer covered till cooked and dry. Mash the dhal. When nearly smooth add salt to taste and the tomatoes and mix well. If necessary, thin with hot water. Heat the ghee in a pan and add the rest of the ingredients, fry briefly and pour this over the lentils. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
