Chana dal payasam

Ingredients

 

1 cup chana dal

2- 3 tbsp rice powder

1 cup grated jaggery

2 cups coconut gratings

1/2 tsp cardamom powder

25 tender cashewnuts or dried

a few raisins

2 tbst ghee

 

Method

1. Soak cashewnuts in water for an hour.  Peel and separate into halves

2. Wash chana dal, roast  in ghee for a few min in a cooker. Add 11/2 glass of water and cook up to 2 whistles.

3.Grind coconut gratings and collect thick juice and thin juice in separate vessels.

4. Open the cooker and add cashewnuts, jaggery.  when jaggery melts add rice powder stirring all the time so that lumps are not formed.

5.Then add thick coconut juice and thin juice if required. Bring to boil.

6.Add raisins and powdered cardamom.

 

Green gram dhal payasam is also prepared in the same way.
