A pure devotee sees Krsna like that

By June 1970, six devotees were living in the Sydney temple. Although young and inexperienced, they were feeling a growing connection with Srila Prabhupada. Regular readings from Prabhupada's little blue abridged Gita and his new Nectar of Devotion kept them philosophically informed. The Krsna Consciousness Album played day and night from a little record player in the lounge. Upendra's classes invariably turned into stories of his early days with Prabhupada in

Early days

Noel, the taxi driver, had stopped visiting the temple on the plea of philosophical doubts, but Janne, the movie actress, was coming around more often. Janne enjoyed the chanting, and especially relished the prasadam -- hot milk flavoured with nutmeg and bananas, and the slices of orange and figs, served after the mid-week classes. She liked to sometimes join the chanting party at the fountain.

The Beach Boys were doing a series of shows at the Chevron Hotel. Janne had befriended them a

Question:  Does Sincere Work Purify the Heart?

Please accept my respectful obeisances,

I read Bhagavad-gita As It Is 3.8: "Perform your prescribed duty, for doing so is better than not working. One cannot even maintain one's physical body without work."  The following question came to my mind: Is it true that by doing one's job sincerely one gets purified of material impurities?

Sunil

Some would have us believe that the scientists can produce something from nothing. But when we ask for proof they only give us a post dated check that in the future the scientists will be able to do it. If someone offered you a billion dollars for your house, you would probably take it. But what if the check was post dated? What if they tell you that they only have $50 in their account today but by tomorrow afternoon they will have a billion dollars in their bank account. Will you sign  over you

Applying the Bhagavad-Gita Today

Applying the Bhagavad-Gita Today

Why should I bother with the Bhagavad-Gita?
How does it apply to me today?

What is the Bhagavad-Gita?

The Bhagavad-Gita is the only word of God in person. It is the conversation between a man called Arjuna and God himself in the human form, Lord Krishna. The conversation took place in Kurukshetra (India), more than 5000 years ago.

Arjuna was a typical person in the material world. He was in a dilemma as he was forgetful of his real duties in life. Therefore Krishna sp

One should develop a liking for residence in a secluded place with a calm and quiet atmosphere favorable for spiritual culture, and one should avoid congested places where non devotees congregate.

Association in every town and village:

To search the audience of God in a lonely forest is considered to be in the mode of goodness.

Defeating the Greatest Enemy

Our greatest enemy is selfishness, our foolish tendency to serve only our own needs while neglecting the needs of others. Selfishness is mere foolishness because no man is an island. By our very nature we are meant to serve others. In fact, the more we make others happy, the more we become happy and satisfied. This is the law of nature. Therefore the very best service we can render is to give all others the ultimate happiness of delivering them from the cycle of birth and death. This is accompli

How Can I Retain What I Read?

Question: How Can I Retain What I Read?

I can't remember what I read in the Bhagavad-gita clearly . Is there a reason for this?  How can I sharpen my memory so that I can explain Krishna to others without giving them the wrong information? I'm too afraid to say anything when they bring God up.

Shivash

Answer: Follow this Technique

In this Kali yuga, age of quarrel and hypocrisy we all have shortness of memory. Therefore if you want to memorize what you have read in the Bhagavad-gita, you will have

Thought Of The Day

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind.

Who Are You ?

Who Are You?

YOU ARE NOT THE BODY BUT A SOUL COVERED IN A MATERIAL BODY.

This is the main teaching of the Bhagavad-Gita.

“As the embodied soul continously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change.” Lord Krishna, Bg. 2.13

You are a soul covered by a material body.

Your are bewildered by maya, the illusion of identifying the self with the body.

In this material body you will suffer t

"G u r u m u k h p a d m a v a k y a"Material world cannot be a happy place ……………….Nectarean MellowsActually in material world there can be no real enjoyment. Real enjoyment means, whole hearted, complete, saturated enjoyment. That can only come from the level of the soul because the soul is the real person. The soul is longing for that which is eternal because the soul is eternal. Within every pleasure of this world, there is a danger; there is the imminent end of this pleasure either through t

Tilaka

Tilaka: The Mark of God
By Nandlal
Anyone who wishes to acknowledge the simple truth that "I am Lord Krishna's servant" can wear tilaka, the clay mark devotees wear on the forehead and other places on their body. You may not feel you have much devotion to Krishna, but you're not prohibited from wearing tilaka, because it's a sign that you're trying to be His devotee. What's more, the qualifications for being Krishna's devotee soon develop in a person who learns the art of wearing tilaka.

While traveling in British Columbia last week, visiting Saranagati and attending the Ratha Yatra, we heard a most inspiring story at the Vancouver Temple.

Dr. Sukumaran is an Auyervedic doctor, originally from the town of Kotakala in Kerala state, where his family owns and operates one of the biggest auyervedic hospitals and herbal remedy centers in all of India. It was there that he met and married a Canadian devotee, Rudrani devi dasi. Due to her preaching, he became a devotee and Gaudiya Vai
