WITS University, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted its second Student Leadership Conference (SLC) from 3–4 October 2025, bringing together young leaders, academics, and faith representatives from across the country. The event, organized by the Centre for Student Development (CSD), has quickly become one of the university’s most anticipated gatherings. Launched in 2024, the SLC aims to cultivate ethical, reflective, and value-driven leadership among students through dialogue, collaboration, and practice.
Held under the theme “Leading with Integrity,” this year’s conference invited students to explore how integrity and faith can guide leadership in an increasingly complex world. A highlight of the second day was the interfaith dialogue titled “Faith, Values, and Integrity in Leadership,” featuring Candice Modiselle, Rev. Dr. Wesley Mabuza, Dr. Shahiem Patel, Mbuso Khoza, and Manukanya Devi Dasi from the Bhakti Yoga Society (BYS). The session was scheduled to be moderated by Faith Mangope, who, due to a loss in her family, was unable to participate.
Representing the Bhakti Yoga Society, which this year celebrates 50 years of continuous presence at WITS University, Manukanya, the society’s co-counselor and mentor, shared how the principles of Bhakti can guide ethical leadership. “This year’s fiftieth anniversary is really a representation of Srila Prabhupada’s determination and mercy,” explained Su-Shitala Radha Devi Dasi, the current BYS Chairperson. “Everything we’ve organized, every student who’s connected through chanting, reading, or just coming to our sessions, is by his compassion and selflessness.”
