In the early morning hours of June 27 and 28th, approximately 20 to 30 bullets were fired at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah. Bullet holes were found in the windows, temple hall walls, and intricately hand-carved arches. Twenty shell casings were recovered near the site. Earlier, on June 18th, smoke was seen rising from the radio station on temple grounds—later determined to be from a separate gunfire incident. Surveillance footage has captured a pickup truck near the premises, but no suspect has yet been identified.
We strongly condemn these reckless and cowardly acts of violence. Authorities are investigating the incidents, which are being treated as potential hate crimes.
We are deeply grateful that no one was physically harmed. However, the fact that people were inside the temple during these shootings underscores the grave risk to human life. These attacks could easily have resulted in injury or loss of life.
This temple is not just a house of worship—it is a cherished landmark for the region, known for its beauty, hospitality, and contributions to interfaith understanding and cultural enrichment. That such a sacred space should come under attack is deeply troubling and a stark reminder of the challenges faced by religious and minority communities today.
We appreciate the swift response and continuing efforts of law enforcement officials, and we are thankful to local civic and interfaith leaders who have expressed their solidarity and support. A reward has been offered for information leading to the identification and apprehension of those responsible.
These events have caused not only material damage but also a deep sense of vulnerability among members of our community. The emotional and spiritual wounds of such an attack linger beyond the physical repair of buildings.
We pray that our nation can rise above the increasing polarization and growing disrespect for the dignity of all people, regardless of their faith, race, or background. Violence against one community threatens the peace of all communities.
We call on people of all faiths and none to stand united in rejecting hatred and violence. Let us recommit ourselves to a society grounded in mutual respect, nonviolence, and compassion.
