Brunch des Halles

Summer 2023 began on 21st of June and the heat rose In Jaganatha’s kitchen in Dijon. Le brunch des halles is an opportunity for dijonnais and tourists alike to discover the culinary wonders of the latest culinary artisan. It is said that cooking is an act of generosity. This is why cooking is an art because the one holding the knife and wearing the couvre chef has the ability to convey an entire world of colors and taste to you. This ability comes with the responsibility of making that world beautiful, healthy and tasty!

Thus, Gopika’s team was the team that took on the responsibility of giving a taste of mercy, love and devotion to 400 and plus people. The menu itself evoked sentiments of romance between the ingredients. For the entrée, La gondole de hoummous was an assortment of green jardin sauvage, yellow sunset and rosé amoureux. You can imagine the rest! Much like in Julia Roberts’ movie Eat Pray and Love, the event was a journey of self-discovery. Gopika Devika was the chef cook and she was directly assisted by her very expert mother, Ramalila, during the whole process. Both mother and daughter are like the spiritual sparks that ignite the fire of sacrifice. There is no cooking without fire and there is no fire without friction, but the resultant is always light and warmth. “Even though sometimes it becomes intense in the kitchen, at the end, we always find reconciliation.” Says Gopika. Ramalila herself is an experienced veteran cook who can be as sweet as she can be strict. “I am old school” says Ramalila bluntly. And she is really old school. Part of the new school of aspiring cooks we find Mathieu, Kamala and Rasananda. Mathieu is the life companion of Gopika and a doctor that specializes in general medicine. He genuinely has an attitude of caring and service. His way-above-level humility translates in how hard he works for the people he cares for. Kamala is a bright young actress and writer. To know her, one needs to know her heart. Lastly, there is Rasananda. A student monk who has dedicated his life in pursuance of spiritual science. The Gopi team included many friends who

received and served the guests on the day of the event. The Sunday 25th of June was a successful day for them. Recalling the words of Ramalila: “cooking is not an easy job.” But for those who do it in the spirit of service, it is not just a job, and it is not just a team. It is an act of love for our families.
