During the September 6th Krishna Janmashtami festivities at ISKCON NYC, Jenifer Rajkumar, a member of the New York Assembly, 38th District, presented an official proclamation that honored the NYC’s Harinam Sankirtan devotees for their many years of service to the community. Their mission, according to their website, is “the propagation of harinam-sankirtan (the congregational chanting of the holy names of God) in the streets and subways of New York City daily for as many hours as possible.” This service has been going on since March 25, 2012.
The framed citation (see below) lauded HH Rama Raya Dasa and his team for “propagating to all the values of Nama-Sankirtan, the perfection of yoga, meditation, and personal sacrifice.” Thanks to them, it noted, the holy names of God resonate throughout New York City, and the “Harinam Sankirtan Group serves as a guide to attain Vraja-Prema, the highest plane of Love of Godhead.”
Reading the proclamation to the gathered devotees, Rajkumar declared, “the organization as worthy of the esteem of both the community and the State of New York on this blessed occasion.”
