It is with heavy hearts that we share the sorrowful news regarding the Divan family, who were scheduled to arrive at New Vrindaban’s Palace Lodge on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The family of four elderly pilgrims—Dr. Kishore Divan (89), Mrs. Asha Divan (85), Mr. Shailesh Divan (86), and Mrs. Gita Divan (84)—began their road trip from Buffalo, NY, with plans to visit Pittsburgh and then New Vrindaban.
The Divans did not show up on Tuesday night at the lodge. The family was later reported missing, and Jaya Krsna das, temple president, worked closely with the Sheriff and the extended family who had initiated a helicopter search in the region. Surveillance footage and cameras across New Vrindaban confirmed that the family never arrived at the property.
The last confirmed sighting was in Erie, Pennsylvania, and a credit card transaction corroborated this location. Shortly thereafter, their vehicle was picked up on a Pennsylvania State Trooper License Plate Reader traveling south on I-79 around 2:45 PM on July 29.
Tragically, their 2009 Toyota Camry was discovered Saturday night, August 2, at approximately 9:30 PM, at the bottom of a steep embankment along Big Wheeling Creek Road—just five miles from New Vrindaban. All four passengers were found deceased. The terrain where the crash occurred is notoriously difficult to navigate, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area.
