Podcast host, Bhrigupada Das with guest Shaunaka Rishi Das, the Director of OCHS.
This month, the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies (OCHS) released its latest initiative, The Bhagavata Podcast. This unique offering promises to take listeners on an engaging journey through the Bhagavata Purana, more commonly known as the Srimad Bhagavatam.
The podcast host, Bhrigupada Das (Måns Broo), a scholar and Gaudiya Vaishnava practitioner, will trace a linear progression through the text. Discussions with his guests, many of whom are also practitioners, will explore the philosophical, theological, and literary dimensions of the Bhagavatam, offering both traditional insights and modern academic interpretations. This thoughtful approach will enable listeners to journey through sacred text chapter by chapter, illuminating its beauty and uniqueness.
The inaugural episode featured an engaging discussion between host Bhrigupada Das and Shaunaka Rishi Das, the Director of OCHS. They explored Canto One, Chapter One, and its themes of spiritual inquiry, the urgency of facing death, and the transformative power of engaging with the Bhagavatam. They also discussed the qualifications for understanding the text, the transgressive aspects of its teachings, and how it redefines spiritual hierarchies. The conversation also emphasized the relevance of the Bhagavatam in contemporary society and offered insights into reading and interpreting the scripture effectively. Episode two, entitled “Divinity and Divine Service” (to premiere on 3/12/25), will welcome guest Krishna Kshetra Swami and explore Canto One, Chapter Two of the Srimad Bhagavatam.
The Bhagavata Podcast is an initiative supported by the Gaudiya Studies Research Programme of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, furthering the mission of connecting living traditions with academic exploration.
