| | “Throughout the whole world there is no institution to impart knowledge in the matter of spiritual understanding. So we are going to open a big centre in Mayapur where this education will be internationally imparted. Students from all parts of the world will go there to take education in this important subject.” - His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of International Society for Krishna Consciousness |

To fulfill this vision of Srila Prabhupada, Mayapur Institute (MI) was established in the year 2000. Since the launch of the Institute in 2000, over 2500 students of various religion, caste, creed and sex coming from various places like USA, UK, Russia, China, Australia, Africa, Europe, etc. have benefited from these programs.
Due to growth in student enrollment every year, the current classrooms and offices are inadequate. Hence, MI has embarked on setting up an exclusive campus at Mayapur. |

Mayapur Institute Campus project, located behind the Gurukul and conceived from the fabulous architectural style of the ancient Dwaraka city is spread over 10 acres surrounded by the green space bursting with fields and forests. Situated on the banks of Ganga, it is ideal for those with a taste for walking through lovely natural areas. The entire campus and all the buildings will be fully vastu compliant with a general slope from SW to NE.
The virgin land at site is raised by 8-10 feet by earth filling and suitably compacted to avoid flooding of campus. The entire campus facilities to be built at the site located on Taranpur Road are eco-friendly. Efforts will be made to keep the campus and class rooms cool without using the AC systems. Tree masses near buildings will facilitate natural air circulation and keep the campus cool in general. The campus will be covered with large lawns, flower gardens, Tulasi garden and many large trees to give a pleasant and serene view. Large trees shall be provided with an earthen bund all round to act as 'vyasasan' for conducting outdoor open-air class. There will be silent zones for Japa meditation, walking, jogging, etc. |

The campus is proposed to have all essential facilities and buildings such as Classrooms, traditional Kutirs, Convocation hall, a Temple, Admin and Library building, Visiting faculty accommodation, student hostels, kitchen & dining, staff housing and Electrical sub-station. There are totally 9 buildings and 7 kutirs with a built up area of approx. 230,000 sq. ft. |
|
All the buildings are proposed to be load bearing structure type in brick. In this system, the load is supported and transferred to the foundation through the masonry walls and there are no concrete structural elements, like columns to support the load. RCC is avoided as the RCC frames cost money and consume resources, energy and are not eco-friendly in comparison to masonry walls. |
|
All the buildings are designed in such a way that there will be no necessity to use electrical lighting during daytime. Use of north lighting, which consists of light that comes from the blue sky rather than directly from the sun. Reflecting windows that can keep the rooms cool during summer and hot during winter will be used in all the buildings and classrooms.
As per traditional Vedic system, the campus will be gender separate. The south part will in general be for the male students and the north part will in general be for lady students. Men and women’s entrance to the campus shall be separate. Shrubs, mehendi plants, tall dense trees shall serve as a natural fencing for effective separation of ladies and gents parts of the campus. |
|
Classroom buildings will have 4 classrooms on each floor. Additionally, they will be provided with staff room, conference / meeting room, storage, toilet block, etc. Care is taken while designing the classroom that no two classrooms will have common wall to avoid noise transmission.
There will be well-furnished gents and ladies hostel facility along with kitchen and dining to outstation candidates. This will be a home away from home. To facilitate for the uninterrupted power supply, there will be a sub-station with transformer and emergency generators. |
|
For resident faculty and staff, family accommodation has been planned. The Admin & Library building will be one of the most prominent buildings in the entire campus. It will have admin & accounts offices in the ground floor and library on the first floor. The library will have book shelves all round and reading area in between. It will have separate entrance / exit and reading area for lady students and for gent students. The library will be designed to hold about 3000-3500 books and have facilities for viewing e- books and for photocopying. |

All buildings are proposed to be brick construction. RCC construction is minimised in the entire campus, which is not only detrimental to the ecology but also tend to isolate us from nature. About 7-8 traditional kutirs are built with locally available materials like bamboo and rice straw that reconnect us to the earth, by creating a healing and calming effect. The kutirs will be for multiple purposes such as music, yoga, study rooms, meditation, etc.At the centre of the campus there will be Sri Sri Gaur-Nitai temple and convocation hall specially designed to accommodate about 400 persons. The convocation hall will also be a very prominent construction in the campus and is proposed to be constructed in vedic style. It will also have stage for cultural shows. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all donors, well-wishers, staff and Teachers for their valuable services. In the next issue, we will update you with the construction status. |
