In a heartwarming celebration marked by devotion and unity, the Panca Tattva Mandir in Fond Du Sac, Mauritius, recently witnessed the auspicious installation of new deities, a significant milestone inspired by the vision of Srila Prabhupada that propels the temple into a new era of spiritual prominence.
The initiative to install the Panca Tattva Deities at the temple dates back to a visit by Srila Prabhupada to Mauritius on October 1, 1975. He expressed a dream that Mauritius would become the first Krishna-conscious island in the world.
Devakinandan Das, the Temple President, reflected on this vision, stating, “Caitanya Mahāprabhu has ordered us to distribute this knowledge all over the world through harinam sankirtan. So, that is what we are trying to do at Sri Pancha Tattva Mandir.”
The temple’s expansion in the north part of the island serves as a testament to this vision, strategically positioned in a tourist area to reach a broader audience, aligning with Srila Prabhupada’s desire for global dissemination of Krishna consciousness. Devakinandan shared, “It was a dream for the management team to extend our temple with a hall that can accommodate 2,000 standing devotees.”
This grand initiative was part of a four-day festival, the first of its kind in Mauritius, drawing thousands of visitors, including ministers, parliamentary members, leaders of Indian social-cultural associations, and distinguished guests. The temple was also graced by the presence of eminent spiritual leaders such as Giriraj Swami, Bhakti Chaitanya Swami, Bhakti Dhira Damodara Swami, Bhakti Nrsimha Swami, Sundar Caitanya Goswami and others.
Devakinandan elucidated, “The festivities included different rituals and Vedic fire ceremonies, the installation of beautiful Deities of Sri Sri Pancha Tattva, feasts of sumptuous prasadam, and a spectacular flower abhishekam display.” The event was broadcast live on social networks, ensuring it reached a wider audience, both locally and globally.
