Surat embraced the grandest Rath Yatra in decades on 7th July, 2024. The day dawned with mild clouds and gentle sunshine, a perfect backdrop for Lord Jagannatha’s divine journey through the city streets.
The atmosphere was charged with spiritual fervor as devotees and curious onlookers alike thronged the path of the magnificent chariot. Despite the textile markets and shops along the route being closed, devotees tirelessly distributed books to every soul eager for darshan.

This year, Surat witnessed the largest and grandest Rath Yatra in the past 25 years. “The city was filled with devotees rushing to catch a glimpse of Lord Jagannatha,” said Jagannath Damodar Das, “There was a very heavy rush throughout the path to see the Lords of the Universe on the chariot.” Surat is a district in Gujarat, India, about 180 miles north of Mumbai.
Lord Jagannath embarked on a 15 km-long journey with committed book distributors serving the enthusiastic crowds.
Appreciating the celebrations of Rama Navami at the Varachha branch of ISKCON in Surat, the Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi pointed out the relevance of the teachings of Lord Ramachandra to modern times.
