We are grateful to share that Guru Maharaja continues to show encouraging progress in his neurological responsiveness and interactions. He is now responding more quickly and consistently to commands, with significantly less delay than before. The neurologist conducted a thorough neurological examination today and was very pleased with the progress observed.
With this improvement in neurological responsiveness, the focus is now increasingly shifting toward more intensive physiotherapy, mobilization, and rehabilitation.
Guru Maharaja remained interactive while sitting in the wheelchair for approximately three and a half hours.
He also showed encouraging engagement in some of his usual activities and interactions. In particular, he encouraged a doctor to chant and gave a book to a nurse—small but meaningful indications of his awareness, familiar personality, and desire to engage with those around him.
The speaking valve is being continued, although it has not yet produced an audible voice. The ENT assessment indicates that Guru Maharaja’s vocal cords appear to be functioning. At present, however, he needs to generate sufficient airflow and pressure through the airway to produce sound.
Therefore, the immediate goal is not necessarily to produce clear words. The speech team will first work with him on producing simple sounds and vowels, gradually building the strength, airflow, and control required for vocalization. More intensive speech and vocalization practice is planned.
These exercises are being carried out particularly during the periods when Guru Maharaja is off ventilatory support. At the same time, there are constant efforts to reduce his overall dependence on ventilatory support, as tolerated.
A low-grade fever continues to occur on an almost daily basis. This is being closely monitored by the medical team, with continued attention to identifying and preventing any possible infection or other underlying cause.
The coming period will be especially important as the medical and rehabilitation teams work to build upon these neurological gains through more intensive rehabilitation, speech and vocalization therapy, mobilization, and gradually increasing periods off ventilatory support.
We therefore humbly request all devotees around the world to continue their sincere prayers:
“My dear Sri Sri Radha-Madhava, Sri Panca-tattva, Lord Nrsimhadeva, and Srila Prabhupada, if You so desire, please bless Guru Maharaja to remain free from infection, regain his strength, recover his ability to speak, become increasingly independent in his breathing, and steadily progress toward stable health and recovery.”
