Over the last few days, Mahārāja has been experiencing episodes of bloody sputum and increased oxygen requirement due to the presence of thick mucus plugs in the lungs, along with a few episodes of fever. With regular medications, nebulizations, and intense chest physiotherapy, the lung condition improves temporarily but tends to get congested again.
To address this issue and to diagnose the underlying cause, today Mahārāja is undergoing a specialized procedure to remove the mucus plugs in Chennai. This is being done under the care of a very senior and experienced pulmonologist, who has successfully performed over 35,000 such procedures.
While the procedure is being done with utmost caution, it is invasive and involves a degree of sedation, and therefore carries some inherent risks. Mahārāja’s medical team is closely monitoring every step.
