Gaura Purnima Celebrations in Mayapur

Kolkata, Mar 2 (UNI) The West Bengal Government and ISKCON will jointly set up a Vedic Centre for Culture and Education at the Gangasagar fairground on Sagar Island to promote spiritual tourism.

The two are also jointly working to build a world-class fountain park, community hall and light-and-sound exhibition to attract visitors.

Gangasagar is visited by thousands of people from all over the country during Makar Sankranti. Because of better road connectivity both domestic and foreign tourists keep on visiting the area throughout the year.

After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stressed on the need to improve Gangasagar. Roads were built and steps were taken to beautify the area.

Spiritual tourism is coming up in Bengal in a very big way and the State Tourism Department and private tour operators have held several rounds of talks on the matter.
