ENDING A GREAT RETREAT by Bhaktimarga Swami

13428080864?profile=RESIZE_584xDoves, deer, turkey vulture, and then there are sandhill cranes.  One crane couple hung around the grounds.  They are inseparable at the Veda Foundation.  At one point, they got super excited to see one of their kind soaring in the sky.  I can’t describe the noise they make, but it’s positive.

Purnachandra, the person maintaining the grounds and operations in general, conducted a maha-yajna in honour of Narasingha, the lion avatar.  Sunday is the day for that.  Remarkable about this outdoor yajna (sacrifice), was that the very second he completed the ceremony, rain came.

The balance of the Sunday Fest was chanting and a look at 4.36 from the Gita, a contemplation on the value of listening or studying the wisdom of the self.  The feast was last, and as Hare Krishnas are famous for the Sunday Open House, the food was relishable here also.

Guests and pilgrims for the medical retreat slowly left for their respective cities, and ultimately, their homes.  The stay-back crew then indulged in a spontaneous last-minute kirtan chant.  The table became the drum, and the clanging of cutlery substituted for the usual musical instruments.  Devotees from Orlando joined in, and to cap off this day of bhakti, we strolled up the sandy trail for a digestive walk, the last venture for this beautiful day.
