Difference b/w God and Demigod

God is the one who is full complete in himself, in all qualities , all attractive which is none other than Krishna, as Krishna means all attractive . Not only by his name he is all complete, his qualities makes him God. No one is perfect in this world except Krishna. There are 33crore types of demigods, and there is different powers, position assigned to them by Lord. Lord Shiva is head of the demigod [Maha- head, dev-demigod; Mahadev], Kartike is Commander and it goes on like this. Krishna have no particular duties but still he perform all; by his powers as king is supreme but he also work harder for the benefit of society in the same way Krishna perform all kind of activities by expanding his power in different ways. One may ask, what makes krishna different from demigods; well the answer is very easy to understand.

  • When Arjun wants to see the Universal form of Lord Krishna, he showed him very easily which is very well described in Chapter 11 of Bhagwad Geeta. All demigod were manifesting from Lord Krishna whether they are Supreme demi god like lord Shiva or lord Brahma

No other demigod ever performed or tries to do such kind of transcendental activity.

  • No demigod accepted that they are the supreme personality of god head or source of all being but Krishna says in B.G 10.8, I am source of all material and spiritual world therefore worship me

  • Not only this; he also called worshiper of demigods as low intelligent in B.G 7.23.

The worship of demigod is performed to get some material benefits, no demigod can liberate you. If in human being form you are worshipping demigod then you have a small intelligence. If you want to respect demigods then worship Krishna. As, if you respect you grandparents; your parents will be happy to see, also in the same way If you worship Krishna, all demigods will be satisfied to see that. In that context lord Shiva says to Parvati "Vishnue aradhna param' i.e. among all prayers Vishnu worship is supreme. Lord Shiva himself chants the holy name all the time, that's why he is considered as Supreme vaishnava. (Vaishnava naam yatha sambhu).

  • All demigods gets powers from Lord Krishna; that is well described by Lord Brahma in Brahma samita. He says in Brahma samita 5.44, Goddess Durga is the external potency of Lord Krishna, and in B.S 5.50, Lord Ganesha obtain power from lotus feet’s of Krishna and many more references are given their which need detailed self-study.
  • GOD means who possesses these six opulence’s in full: all riches, all strength, all influence, all wisdom, all beauty, and all renunciation. Only Lord Krishna have all kind of six opulence.

  • Srila Rupa Gosvami, after consulting various scriptures says; Krishna possess 64 qualities, among these Lord Siva has 84%, Lord Vishnu has 93% and Lord Brahma has 78% of these qualities.

  • Srila prabhupada says in the purport of SB1.2.26 “Other demigods, like Brahma, Siva, Surya, Ganesa and many similar deities, are worshiped by men in the mode of passion, urged on by the desire for material enjoyment. But those who are actually situated in the mode of goodness (sattva-guna) of material nature worship only visnu-tattvas […]
it is for this reason only that candidates for liberation deliberately reject the worship of the demigods, although they have no disrespect for any one of them.”

I hope it is somehow clear to you by these references who is Supreme God and the difference between God and Demigod. There is further detailed explanation in Srimad bhagwatam, Bhagwad Geeta and many more. The conclusion is; the worshiping of demigods is just for selfish motto. An ignorant person driven by material lusty desires approaches various demigods and worships them to get quick material benefits which are temporary in nature. On the other hand, an intelligent person directly worships Krishna or His different forms such as Lord Rama, Lord Narasimha etc. He knows well that Krishna is the source of all living entities including demigods. He doesn’t desire any material boons. A pure devotee of Krishna gives due respects to all living entities including an ant, what to speak of respecting demigods? He respects demigods as the dear servants of Krishna. Even if he happens to worship a demigod, it is only for gaining their favor for advancing in Krishna Consciousness.

Anyone who thinks that God and the demigods are on the same level is called an atheist. Even the great demigods like Brahma and Shiva cannot be compared to the Supreme Lord. As Krishna says in B.G 7.23 ‘Men of small intelligence worship the demigods. Low intelligent people always worship demigods because of various demands or results. They get the results but they actually are losing their chance to worship and Love Lord Krishna. In that reference Srila Bhaktisidhanta saraswati Thakur maharaj says “The worshipers of demigods they are very selfish whereas Worshiper of Lord Krishna/Vishnu are Self-less” The Point is to understand that the if someone worship different demigods with self-desire even though there self-desire will be full filled but they will never get purified ;on the other side if they worship lord Krishna even with some motive or desire, Lord is so kind He purifies that selfish desire into selfless devotion. We can take an example of Dhruv maharaja, initially he approached lord Vishnu with some desire but when he saw the Lord he was purified. He approached with some desire but as soon as he saw the lord he said ‘varam naya che’ I don’t want anything. But in worshiping of demigod we don’t find it, they go with their self-desire and after getting the boon, they try to kill the booner or who gave them such benediction. We can see the example of Bakasura; when he received the boon from lord Shiva, firstly he tried to kill lord Shiva at the end Lord Vishnu interfered and killed the demon. In this world, people are mad after the materialistic things and desires in this way they somehow reject the purpose of this life which is to awaken our Krishna consciousness. If we try to understand the philosophy, we will not hanker here and there, our purpose will be only one i.e. how can we go back home, back to god head.

Thank you
