This year’s Hare Krsna Festival at the National Mall was another amazing event. Literally thousands of people from all walks of life, all ethnic backgrounds, and age groups couldn’t help but hear this chanting of the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra. As a direct result, so many people were feeling genuine spiritual ecstasy by Nama Prabhus’ causeless mercy. Honestly, the atmosphere was so spiritually surcharged, they couldn’t resist and found themselves spontaneously jumping in and started dancing along with us.
A large number of temple devotees, along with their families, joined many congregational members who came out in full force, making this one of our largest turnouts ever. Easily over fifty devotees joined the chanting party. Besides our continuous kirtans from 6 to 9 pm, several devotees were eagerly distributing deity prasadam candies, and On Chanting Hare Krsna pamphlets throughout the entire evening. Often, people would approach asking for more candies and a booklet, too.
A pair of Park Rangers even drove by twice in their electric carts, giving us a thumbs up, showing their appreciation. Of course, we always have one or two people who aren’t so appreciative of the chanting. However, it was almost comical as one lady asked if we would stop what we were doing. She claimed we are disturbing all the people around us. I asked her to look around and see all the people with big smiles on their faces as they happily danced and sang with us. What could she say? Most people waiting for the fireworks to start really enjoyed watching the Hare Krishna’s live entertainment.
