In an era increasingly shaped by digital storytelling and artificial intelligence, one devotee has taken an innovative step toward making Srimad Bhagavatam accessible to a broader audience. Jagat Pavitram Das, a disciple of Hanumatpresaka Swami, has created Histories of the Universe, a 32-episode audiovisual series designed to present key teachings and narratives from the first nine cantos of the Bhagavatam in a format suitable for both devotees and the general public.
From Bookshelf to Broadcast: A Devotee’s Early Journey
Based in Lima, Peru, Jagat Pavitram began his spiritual journey in 2007 at the age of 17, while studying electronic engineering. “From the very beginning of my spiritual life, I rendered service in the three ISKCON temples located in Lima,” he said. His introduction to Krishna consciousness came a few years earlier, at age 14, when he found The Perfection of Yoga in his father’s library. “My father told me that it was a good book and that I had to read it. But I was only 14 years old, so it was very difficult to understand.” Two years later, he discovered a secondhand copy of The Science of Self-Realization, and the message struck home.
He officially joined ISKCON in 2007 and immersed himself in congregational service. “I participated in Bhakti-vriksha and Nama-hatta programs and began my Bhakti Sastri and Bhakti Vaibhava courses under my spiritual master,” he explained. As a young man, he lived in confident independence, away from family, who remained supportive but distant from his spiritual commitments. “I alone took to Krishna consciousness,” he said. “My father and mother live in another province. I have a good relationship with my parents, and my father appreciates that I live a healthy, spiritual life, even if he doesn’t go into what I practice.”
