Karuna Sindhu and I took to a walk to Mount Sinai Hospital to visit one of our aging residential monks, Jay Sri. His physical condition is complicated. We were surprised to see his spiritual nature despite what he is going through at his age of 77. He has lost a lot of weight, but was hankering for blueberries, cheese, and something else milky. He was happy to see us.
Karuna and I had attended a five-hour seminar on Vaishnava etiquette. All there appreciated the presentation by Indresh Gaura. It is a course that has been available and with different incarnations. That is totally necessary since the world is changing socially. Important it is to be relevant.
I’m rather amazed by the quick adjustment I’m making physically. I just came from India where it’s hot and sticky. This is, indeed, Krishna’s mercy.
As we walked back to the temple, I reflected on my good fortune overall. I know my turn will come where I’ll be placed in physical care. Either in rehab, palliative care, or some kind of situation, I’ll be going fast like the fast and furious. Preference is not to go through a long and drawn-out ordeal. For now, my limbs or legs are strong. My spirit for doing is also strong.
We had chanted some mantras for Jay Sri, wishing him well. He was an avid bike rider. Those days are over.
