20 Moods of Shrimati Radha Rani

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

The twenty different moods headed by kila-kincita are described as follows.

First, in connection with the body,

  1. there are bhava (ecstasy),
  2. hava (gestures) and
  3. hela (negligence);
  4. in relation to the self there are sobha (beauty),
  5. kanti (luster),
  6. dipti (brilliance),
  7. madhurya (sweetness),
  8. pragalbhata (impudence),
  9. audarya (magnanimity) and
  10. dhairya (patience); and
  11. in relation to nature there are lila (pastimes),
  12. vilasa (enjoyment),
  13. vicchitti (breaking off) and
  14. vibhrama (puzzlement).

There are no English equivalents for the words

  1. kila-kincita,
  2. mottayita and
  3. kuttamita.

Srimati Radharani’s flower garland consists of Her qualities and is divided into

  1. mental,
  2. verbal and
  3. bodily parts.
  • Her attitude of forgiveness and mercy is all mental.
  • Her talks, which are very pleasing to the ear, are verbal.
  • The bodily qualities are age, beauty, luster and grace.
