When, where and how did you come into contact with the Hare Krishna Movement?
In 1999 through the ISKCON Prison Ministry I sought out Srila Prabhupada after a life changing event with a sankirtan party in Houston, TX when I was 11 years old. Since then I focus on studying Srimad-Bhagavatam and nourish what precious little bhakti I have through Krishna conscious resources on the internet. The sastra that has most touched my heart is text 49 from the Susloka-sataka, "From the time that Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu, the sacred form of love for Lord Krsna gave out His gifts of love, the sinner, the ascetic, the drunkard, the dacoit, the rogue and the thief, all very grateful to Him, completely abandoned their materialistic ways as if they were deadly poison and then intoxicated, loudly sang the Holy Names of Lord Krsna until they sank exhausted into the ocean of Krsna-prema." This verse exemplifies the mercy of Bhagavan succinctly expressed in Bhagavad-Gita 4:36, "Even if you are considered to be the most sinful of sinners, when you are situated in the boat of transcendental knowledge you will be able to cross over the ocean of miseries."
Name the nearest or most frequently Visited ISKCON temple/ centre and name few of the devotees whom you know.
I live closest to the Chicago temple but alas, I am unable to travel there due to lack of transportation. My association with Vaisnavas has been limited to my spiritual mentor Bhakti Ananda Goswami, HG Chandrasekhara prabhu, My deceased teacher Mukta Kesa prabhu and occasional corresspondence with Syamasundara prabhu.
Please describe yourself so that other like minded devotees can find you.
Neophyte bhakta on the lunatic fringe of the Hare Krishna movement since discovering the ananda of chanting HARE KRSNA HARE KRSNA KRSNA KRSNA HARE HARE HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE through the auspices of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
