  RE: your question about material happiness with our family. Gita tells us that "happiness and distress come and go all on their own accord just like the summer and winter seasons. The self realizated soul is undisturbed by these changes, neither attracted or distressed". As you say this happiness is temporary; some times our family also can cause us great distress. Nothing hurts as more than what a love one can cause. At some time or another, every thing and every body will disappoint us. But we as devotees are trying to realize our REAL love and the One who loves us the most is Krsna. There is no one else who can give us eternal complete love as He can.
