    Home remedy for acne…

Take a few pieces of jaiphal (nutmeg), mix it with some unboiled milk and apply the paste on your acne. Wash it off after about two hours.

    - Make a mixture of cinnamon powder and honey and apply on your pimples before you go to bed in the night. Wash it with warm water when you wake up in the morning. Do this for a fortnight and watch your pimples disappear.

    - Not only are oranges good for overall health, you can use orange peels as a remedy for pimples too. Grind the peels, mix them with a few drops of water and apply it on your face.

    - Mix a tablespoon each of fresh lime juice and groundnut oil and apply it on your face to avoid blackheads.

    - Leave fresh mint juice on your face overnight to tame pimples.

    - Take methi (fenugreek) leaves and make a paste. Apply it every night for 15 minutes and wash it off.

    - Take turmeric powder and neem leaves. Apply the mixture on your pimples. Leave it on your face for about half an hour.

    - Take equal quantities of rose water and lime juice and apply the mixture on the affected area. Leave it on for 20 minutes.

    - Make a face-wash by adding fresh lime juice to a cup of unboiled milk and using it on your face.

    - Take some tomato pulp and apply it on your face. Leave it for 45 minutes and wash it off.

    - Take a few drops of gulab jal (rose-water) and mix it with sandalwood. Apply the paste on your face and wash it off after 20 minutes.
    - Always do a skin test: Home remedies are easy to make and apply but before that one should definitely go for a skin test to a dermatologist before inception of any kind. Your skin type and reason for your acne can be different from others in which only a dermatologist can help you out. Applying the remedies without knowing the reason or skin type may harm your skin and give you more side-effects from the same.

    - Leafy intake: Vitamin A & Iron supplements are really good for acne. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, dairy products, fish, liver and fortified cereals; the top sources of provitamin A include carrots, broccoli, cantaloupe and squash. Daily intake of 20,000 IU would help in reducing the acne formation as well as the scarring caused by the acnes.

    - Exercise regularly: Regular workouts, physical exercises and a fit body with a balanced weight will help you in the long term; reducing sweets, carbohydrates and high calories in diet would help in controlling acne.

-Herbal cure: Neem and chiraita are excellent herbs which help in decreasing the acne formation. Crush some leaves and make a paste out of them, apply the paste daily for a cleaner looking and an acne free skin.

    - Baking soda: Baking soda is one of the ingredients which can be found in every kitchen easily. Mix baking soda with some water in a bowl as thick as a paste and apply it over the face as a facial mask. Remove it after 20 minutes and wash your face with lukewarm water or as the dermatologist prescribes as per your skin type. Natural bleaching agents of baking soda will definitely help in speeding the healing, clearing up and reducing of the scars.

    - Oatmeal: Mix some water with oatmeal ground in a blender from which you will get a thick paste. Apply the paste to the face as a facial mask and let it dry for 15 minutes. Wash it with lukewarm water and pat dry your face with a white clean towel. Natural properties of the oatmeal will help in cleaning up the acne and reduce the scarring.

    - Organic yogurt: If you are not allergic to milk products then organic yogurt is very gentle and is a must for acne reduction. Apply the yogurt on the acne and let it remain for at least 10 minutes. Lactic acid in the yogurt contains natural alpha hydroxy acids and has milk exfoliating effects which helps the skin rejuvenate and reduce acne scarring.

    - Cold pressed olive oil: Olive oil is a great skin moisturiser and in use from years for personal care as it contains four different antioxidants one of which is linoleic acid which prevents water to evaporate from our skin. Take some cold pressed olive oil and apply it to the scars. It helps in reducing the visibility of acne scars and helps in softening them.

    - Ice magic: Place an ice-cube over your acne pimples one by one and it will really help reduce the redness and swelling from them. Ice cubes also helps in reducing the size of acne scars by tightening them.

    Self-help pimple treatments

    • Washing your face about twice each day - not more often. Make sure you have a mild soap. Use warm water. Wash gently; do not scrub the skin. Experts advise the use of an OTC lotion which contains benzoyl peroxide.

    • Do not pop (burst) the pimple - there is a risk you may push the infection further down, causing more serious blockage and worse swelling and redness. Popping pimples also increases the risk of scarring.

    • If you need to get rid of it - if you have an important event, such as a public-speaking engagement or a wedding and it is important to get rid of a sightly pimple, get a specialist to treat it for you.

    • Touching your face - even though this may require some willpower, try to refrain from touching your face with your hands. If you are using a telephone, do not let receiver touch the skin of your face - it may have skin residue or sebum on it. Before touching your face make sure you always wash your hands with soap.

    • Hand hygiene - keep your hands and nails as clean as you can by washing them regularly with soap. Keep your nails short.

    • Glasses (spectacles) - glasses collect sebum and skin residue; clean them regularly.

    • Loose clothing - if the pimples are on parts of your body covered by clothing, such as your back, shoulders or chest, wear loose clothing. Whenever possible, avoid wearing headbands, caps and scarves - if you have to wear them, wash them regularly. In short - allow your skin to breathe.

    • Make up - make sure you have taken all your make up off when you go to sleep. Only use makeup that isnonceomedogenic or nonacnegenic - you should be able to read this on the label.

    • Hair - sebum and skin collects in hair. Keep your hair clean. Try to keep your hair away from your face.

    • Sun exposure - overexposure to sunlight may sometimes result in the production of more sebum. Some medications used by people with acne may make your skin more prone to sunburn.

    • Shaving your face - be careful when you shave. Either use safety razors (make sure blade is sharp) or an electric shaver. Before shaving, soften the skin with warm, soapy water before applying the shaving cream - the skin is softer straight after a warm shower.
