"In 1973 Ravi Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Alla Rakha visited Chile to perform two concerts at the Caupolican theater in Santiago. In the midst of great political turmoil in Chile, not all students had the financial resources to pay for an entry to a Pandit Ravi Shankar concert, but Patricio Labra, a young engineering student in the Catholic University, had an intense desire to share the culture and music of ancient India with all his classmates. So he went on his own to the hotel where the great musician was staying and sneaked his way to get an interview with him. He told Ravi Shankar about his intention to bring this music to all his colleagues, many of whom were experiencing great difficulties during a hard time in the history of our country. The maestro Ravi Shankar and his inseparable friend Ustad Alla Rakha, very kindly agreed to play for free for all the students of the Catholic University, making Patricio Labra a great hero for all his friends. In that decade the ancient philosophy of the Vedas and the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra were already well known in the western world thanks to the great scholar, saint and spiritual master Srila Prabhupada. He wrote more than 80 books on the science of Krishna and traveled to West in 1965 to expand a message of love and devotion around the world.Pandit Ravi Shankar taught the sitar to George Harrison, The Beatles' lead guitar player. At the same time, Srila Prabhupada was his spiritual master, and Harrison made the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra famous by his well-known song "My Sweet Lord".Years after the concert, and being still very young, Patricio Labra suffered from premature Alzhaimer and today is visited daily by his warm family in a beautiful nursing home for the senior aged (Living la Dehesa), in which he receives specialized care 24 hours a day.As members of Krishna Sambandha we wanted to pay tribute to Patricio, so we gathered approximately one hundred elder citizens in an event in which we had the honor of sharing the Maha Mantra Hare Krishna, sweets prepared with love and devotion and, obviously, beautiful Srila Prabhupada's books. It had been over 40 years ago since Patricio had heard this kind of music, and his deep smile was an image we will never erase from our hearts".contact us on: www.facebook.com "Krishna Sambandha" or email us: sebastiankauak@gmail.com
