Yes to Grand Prairie by Bhaktimarga Swami

Grande Prairie is new to me. It’s an oil and natural gas resource town and it is rather modern as far as architecture is concerned. People work hard here, for example, 14–15 hour long shifts are common, and they go on for a 2-week stretch followed by some days off. I don’t see too many folks smiling, but you do get a percentage that are out jogging or walking for fitness.

A small group of us took to a trail that is a bridge over Bear Creek, a lovely spot. The area is great scenic-wise. If you’re not alone, cyclists are zipping by, traveling in the rich forest. Magpies dominate the sky.

The response to engaging the locals into town has been good. Not least among the Krishna/Yoga community, the two night and daytime shows drew interest. I was asked to highlight messages from the Gita and to present tales from trails.

A sweet couple from North India, Raj, Gopal and Madhavi, and a devotee from the Philippines, Madan Mohan, are the heroes of Grande Prairie for holding regular programs in bhakti yoga. Their offerings are also involved, which is always a positive thing. Successions is always an important component in any community.

It was my first visit here, and I promised it won’t be my last. The subtle nudging by Prabhupada, our guru, prods me on.
