Many people (especially my peers and friends from school) seem to understand why I don't eat meat. But they're always rendered perplexed when I tell them I also don't eat onion and garlic. While people are now getting used to the term, "vegetarianism", going "onion and garlic less" is still weird and unusual to many. Why don't we eat onion and garlic? There are many reasons why:
1) They cannot be offered to Lord Krishna.
2) They increase ignorance and passion.
3) Distracts us from being focused/concentrated. (This is why pilots are not allowed to eat onion/garlic 72 hours before flying a plane. Onion and garlic reduce reaction time and decreases concentration)
4) Uncleanliness (bad odour)
5) Garlic may have botulism bacteria

Hare Krishna Vaidehi Mataji! Thank you for posting such a wonderful topic. I have shared this information with my family members too. Hope your Krishna Consciousness journey help many conditioned souls to liberate. People consume garlic and onion because of false conception and propaganda of so called nutritionists. Mataji, keep your good works up. Hare Krishna!
we request all the devotees to donate for Mayapur project.
