My reading diary

Hare Krishna ,

Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to shrila Prabhupada.

We all know and have experienced that regular reading of Shrila Prabhupada's books are certainly one of the best ways to learn and grow in our sadhana . I have tried to keep a diary to note down the books i am reading with entries of my realizations on that reading, and It has helped me a lot to plan my reading, and refer to it later also. Let us share here what are we reading, our realizations on that reading and seniors can help us plan our further reading .

Looking forward to great participation from all the devotees, their  reading dairy, and also guidance from senior devotees to help in planning our reading .

    Please accept my humble obeisances, All glories to Shrila Prabhupada,

    excerpts from "THE LAWS OF NATURE"

     Material nature consists of three modes , or gunas: sattava guna, rajo guna, and tamo guna, or the modes of goodness, passion and ignorance. Another meaning of guna is "rope". Rope is made by twisting fiber in a threefold process. First the fiber is twisted in three small strands, then three of them are twisted together, then again three of those are twisted together. In this way the rope becomes very strong. Similarly , the three modes of nature- goodness, passion and ignorance - are mixed, after which they produce some by-products. Then they are mixed again and again then again. Thus they are "twisted" together "innumerable times".

    In this way the material energy binds you more and more. By your own efforts you cannot get out of this bondage, which is knows as pavarga . Pa-varga is the fifth set of letters in the Sanskrit Devanagari alphabet. It contains the letters pa,pha,ba,bha, and ma. pa  stands for parisrama , "hard labor". Every living entity in this world is struggling very hard to maintain himself and survive. This is called the hard struggle for existence. Pha  stands for phena, "foam". When a horse works very hard, foam comes out of its mouth. Similarly, when we are tired from  working very hard , our tongue may become dry and some foam forms in our mouth. Every-one is working very hard for sense gratification - so much so that foam is coming from their mouth. Ba  represents bandha  "bondage". In spite of all of our efforts we remain bound up by the ropes of material modes of nature. Bha  stands for bhaya ,  " fear". In material life, one is always in a blazing fire of fear, since no one knows what will happen next. And ma represents mrtyu,  "death". All our hopes and plans for happiness and security in this world are ended by death.

    So Krishna consciousness nullifies this pavarga process. In other words, by taking to Krishna consciousness one attains aparvarga  where there is no hard struggle for existence and no material bondage, fear or death.  Pvarga  symptomizes this material world, but when you add the prefix "a" to pvarga,   that means it is nullified. Our Krishna consciousness movement is the path of apavarga.

  • Hare Krishna,

    PAMHO, AGTSP,

    I have started rereading "THE LAWS OF NATURE - an Infallible Justice" from last evening, 11th march. Some important points from the "introduction" ;

    • We must understand the laws of nature from the viewpoint of the Supreme Lord, who has created these laws.
    • The source of our problem is the desire for sense gratification beyond the consideration of anyone else's rights.
    • The Vedic literature declares that the Supreme Lord owns and controls the entire creation....... Our natural, constitutional role is to serve God. He is the supreme enjoyer, and we are meant to take part in His enjoyment through service to Him, not by trying to enjoy separately.
    • Why do we misuse our independence ? Because we are ignorant of our real nature. The first lesson of the Vedic wisdom is that we are not bodies but rather spirit sould.

    Requesting all the devotees to add more highlights from the "introduction" of this great book. I will start reading chapter 1. God and The Law of Karma. Join me in reading this wonderful book and share your views.

    hari bol.
