The biggest concern for today’s Ratha Yatra Chariot Fest, was the weather conditions. All week long the sun was with us but repots were indicative of rain for this day. The forecast was quite accurate. It became a wet day, however, the spirit of the organizers for making it a happy day for God, Jagannatha, was admirable. And when you consider that this is Father’s Day weekend, we have every reason to be grateful to the greatest creator, provider and protector of them all. Jagannatha means “Lord of the universe” and if He wants to sprinkle upon the creation, He has every right to.
The day shone despite a darkness and dampness. They are physical conditions and since participants and organizers were moved by the spirit, happy faces pervaded throughout the day. I saw only the troupers conducting themselves from the heart. The team of Ambarish and Anchal, Savyasasin and his daughter, Vaishali, Hiren and Kruti and the many more devotees who out did themselves and just so commendable.
Personally, I was just so appeased to join as the singing with Gaura in the procession as water came down on us at Harrison Grounds, starting point. And when finally, we were all sheltered under Maduka’s tent and performing our drama I was proud. Daniel, one of the actors, after the audience applauded, said,” I’ve never done anything like this in my life. Out in front of people.” He was elated.
I want to thank Savyasasin (whom we sometimes call Savy for short) for inviting me and for the idea of a drama at this event which at large proves be a true “Festival of Joy.”
