Vaikuntha Atmosphere - Part 1

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

In the 15th Chapter of 3rd Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam titled, "Description of kindgom of God", we find that when Diti is pregnant, the demigods could see unusual darkness spreading over the universe and out of fear they approach Lord Brahma for help. At that time Lord Brahma while explaining the demigods about the pastime of the four Kumaras entering Vaikuntha, beautifully glorifies the nature of the living entities in Vaikuntha. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse SB 3.15.18 Lord Brahma says,

paaraavataanyabhrta-sarasaa-cakravaaka-
daatyuha-hamsa-shuka-tittiri-barhinaam yah
kolaahalo viramate 'cira-maatram uccair
bhrngaadhipe hari-kathaam iva gaayamaane

"When the king of bees hums in a high pitch, singing the glories of the Lord, there is a temporary lull in the noise of the pigeon, the cuckoo, the crane, the cakravaka, the swan, the parrot, the partridge and the peacock. Such transcendental birds stop their own singing simply to hear the glories of the Lord."

In the mundane world, we like to hear our own names and glories. Even when we are busy with some work, if people around us mention our name to others, then we stop our work to hear what they are telling about us. In other words we are so eager to hear about our own glories, what others think about us etc. Whereas we see a nice contrast in the behaviour of birds in Vaikuntha. There we find that birds there stop their singing when they hear the bees loudly humming the glories of the Sri Hari. In his wonderful purport to the above verse Srila Prabhupada says, "In the material world even an ass enjoys his sound vibration, but in the Vaikuntha such nice birds as the peacock, the cakravaaka and the cuckoo prefer to hear the vibration of the glories of the Lord from the bees. The principles of devotional service, beginning with hearing and chanting, are very prominent in the Vaikuntha world."

So the inhabitants of Vaikuntha, the bees and the birds, teach us few important lessons.

1. We must loudly sing the glories of Krishna and not misuse our voice for anything else. Our mouth should be used only for glorification of Lord.
2. If someone is singing the glories of Krishna, whoever they may be, (irrespective of their age, appearance, social status, economical status etc), we should attentively and sincerely hear from them.
3. Also we should not keep talking amongst ourselves, when someone is glorifying Krishna.

May we remember to practise these lessons in our daily life. Krishna willing we shall try to learn some more lessons from the inhabitants of Vaikuntha in the subsequent offering.
