Message from Visnu Murti Das :

Uniting Srila Prabhupada’s Multi-lingual Family July 21, 2013 - Radhadesh, Belgium By Visnu Murti das Update on Vanipedia’s Multi-language Subtitle Project.

His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada desired to have his books translated in all languages, and left ongoing instructions for this translation to continue perpetually. "We must translate and print books, as many as possible. "Print books" means we have got already book. Simply translate it in the particular language and publish it. That's all. Idea is already there. You haven't got to manufacture idea. So France is very important country. So printing and translation must go on. That is my request." - Room Conversation with GBC members on March 1, 1977. To listen carefully to Srila Prabhupada with the intent to properly translate his words in our own languages, constitutes a very profound form of hearing. In order to faithfully represent what His Divine Grace is saying, every word must be reflected on. Thus this service offers a deep encounter with his teachings. It also helps us inquire submissively, and in various ways increases the quality of our service to Srila Prabhupada. Vanipedia has taken up the mission to build a solid foundation in order to facilitate the translation of Srila Prabhupada's lectures and conversations in all languages. In just over two months of enthused service, Sahadeva has created 276 video clips from Srila Prabhupada's lectures and conversations. Rishab has created the English subtitles, and has coordinated the efforts of over 70 devotees who have kindly come forward to offer their translation services. Together we have already completed over 1,300 subtitles, spanning more than 40 languages. With a projection of 1,080 clips in 108 languages and with over 50,000 subtitles to make, there is lots of service to be grabbed.

Here are some of the results so far:

276 clips with Latvian subtitles by Linda

84 clips with Czech subtitles by Vijaya Baladeva

In a short time, Srila Prabhupada's multi-lingual family can actually realize the premise that he did, in fact, build a house in which the whole world can live; by securing his Vani as both the roof and the foundational shelter of that house. Let's unite around Srila Prabhupada's voice, and help it to be heard by all of his family members and the people in general. If you want to be involved, or you know some other devotees who are passionate about assisting Srila Prabhupada to preach in other languages, please let us know, and we will happily facilitate you to get started. As they say, many hands make light work. The short 1 to 10 minute clips are very quick to translate, so a few hundred devotees translating an hour here, and an hour there will deliver substantial results. Please shower us with all your blessings to be fixed in our services. We can also use some help to create the videos and the English subtitles.

  • Hare Krsna to all devotees, PAMHO, AGTSP.

Following is the experience and appreciation from me, which has been posted on http://www.vanimedia.org/wiki/Multi-language_Subtitle_Project .

Mahesh Thali, India - I am a Marathi translator from Mumbai, India. I'm thanking Visnu Murti Prabhu for selecting me to perform the devotional service to our Spiritual Master and Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada. To become a translator, from what I can understood, is one must have read and listened to a maximum of Srila Prabhupada's Lectures, Conversations, Letters and other books. Just reading purports of BG or SB is not sufficient for translation. This is because one has to understand Srila Prabhupada (it's very difficult to understand him and Krsna.) to whatever extent one can. It is like getting in tune to His Divine Grace and trying to understand his message. And by having read alot of his literatures, it is helping me very much in performing this translation service. Without knowing truly His Divine Grace and his message, the translation is very difficult. The automated-translators can not understand the Vedic languages. So I have to translate the whole text myself, and that also without changing the basic essence of Srila Prabhupada's original message. I'm also enjoying Sanskrit(Devanagari) typing, which I never did in my lifetime.

I like the work very much because, I've got an opportunity to listen to Srila Prabhupada again and again and associate all the time with him. During translation I refer to many Marathi literatures, so my reading gets doubled. The more I'm translating, my Vedic Knowledge is getting multiplied. I'm feeling so much energized and happy doing this work. In fact day by day my hunger to listen Srila Prabhupada is increasing and hence the inspiration too. It is a very big project and needs a team work. I'm congratulating everyone from our team to get such good opportunity to perform the seva to Srila Prabhupada ... HariBol.....

    Your Servant,

    Mahesh.
