True friendship against superficial friendship

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Friendship in this world can be very genuine, very meaningful and also very superficial!

Superficial friendship is `you scratch my back and I'll scratch your back'. Superficial friendship is very selfish. Real friendship in this world is no selfish. Its' selfless. Superficial friendship in this world is meant only in times of prosperity. Real friendship is checked in times of adversity…A true friend his one who will divide your sorrows and multiply your joys.

`Ustranam hi vivaheshu,gadharabham abhijayate,

parasparam prashansati, aho rupam! aho dhwanim!

Ustranam hi vivaheshu…It was the marriage of the camel in the forest. The different animals were animals were taking different gifts. The monkey were taking nice fresh fruits. The kasturi dear was taking the musk, different animals taking different gifts. And in that wedding `gardarbham abhijayate'. Gadarbh, the donkey was also going. He realized that he did not have anything to take as gift except his voice.

`Ustranam hi vivaheshu,gadharabham abhijayate,

parasparam prashansati, aho rupam! aho dhwanim!

The donkey started to speaking the camel, "Oh camel, I have never seen an animal or a creature more beautiful than you in the creation of Brahman, your eyes are like petals of lotus, your teeth are like jasmine buds, your nose is like a sesame flower, your waist is slender, your chest big, your legs thin and slender, you are the essence of all beauty. Aho rupam, aho rupam!

And the camel thought, no one has given me a gift as good as this. He's calling me extremely beautiful! And in response camel started saying "Aho dhwanim, aho dhwanim, I've never heard voice as sweet as yours, you're the sweetest singer that has been created in the creation of Lord Brahma". Parasparam prashansanti.

That's very superficial friendship. And such friendship never lasts.

A true friend is one who will give his shoulder to cry on even in times of need and desperation,. In adversity a true friend will never desert you.

They say `A friend in need is a friend indeed.'.

Exactly contrary to superficial friendship is real or true friendship. Who is a true friend? A true friend is who will be with us at all times of our life. Good and bad times.
