TRINIDAD
Nice to be in a place where roses have scent
Food is fresh and with hummingbirds present
The accent of the Trinis becomes a treat
A Creole mix, different, awesomely shweet
The steel band music encourages movement
Its genre is the standard level of amusement
Lest we forget, it is the birthplace of limbo
Where you shimmy under a bar that lies low
The terrain is flat with added mountain beauty
People are nice whether on-or-off duty
You have cricket madness, parties, rum to drink
High number of cars – too much – I’m inclined to think
Potholes are everywhere, literally the pits
Whether a driver or passenger, you are a misfit
A place I go with devotees is Las Cuevas Bay
Take to the beach with food, mantra, in water we play
The popular doubles is the street food delight
A quick tasty chickpea spread on a bun to bite
Recently, non-veg ingredients have made it there
There are optional choices, I make you aware
When is a notion a nation? When oil is struck?
Do we ride only on terms we call buck?
Trini or not, let’s play down on ego pursuits
Be adventurous, get down to alife’sctual roots
