The Time bomb effect

While visiting Tirupati, I heard this story from Guru Prasad Swami in a Caitanya-caritamrta class:

Thirty years ago a student at a university in Mexico City received a book from a book distributor. He was absorbed in his studies, so he put the book on his bookshelf and planned to read it later. Then he entered family life and the world of work, etc.

He had a daughter who in her teen-age years went through a rough period of taking drugs and associating with people of low character. She became very confused about life and started asking such questions as "Why am I suffering so much?" One day she saw the book her father had received thirty years earlier. She began reading it and was completely intrigued. She looked up the nearest temple in the address list at the end of the book and visited it. She was very happy to see and associate with the devotees, who had such high character. Shortly thereafter she joined the temple.

Her brother wanted to know what his sister was getting involved in and also started reading Srila Prabhupada's books. He was impressed with what he found and also joined the temple.

Their mother wanted to know what her two children had given there lives to, so she also investigated Prabhupada's books and became a devotee, but she stayed at home.

Now her husband began to wonder, "What is it in these books that is changing my whole family in a good way?" So he finally started reading the book he had received so many years earlier. He also became a devotee.

This is the time bomb effect of Srila Prabhupada's books -- ticking away, patiently waiting to be opened. Then boom! -- a whole family devote their life to Krsna.
