It was quite joyful seeing the Amazon boxes outside my door. We tore into them to get to the contents and sure enough, there they were - the books I anticipated. It was my second publication - "The Walking Monk/ Poems. 1 "
The book is slim with a glossy jacket, one hundred fifty-five pages. It looks good. I thank Nitai Priya, the main editor who is getting married this week. There are different headings or sub-titles that fill the book - Heros, Social Issues, Walking Culture and Wisdom Wonder. It covers these topics, hence it covers a lot.
I get an author's bargain price on them, so a few copies have made it in the hands of people as complimentary. I pray that our guru, Srila Prabhupada, blesses this gift. Another unique thing about today is the honouring of Nirjal Ekadashi, a day for fasting from grain, but on this day, all food, even water. Austerity is the wealth of the brahmanas. Abstinence is not easy when it comes to a fast from those things that fuel us.
I abstained from abstaining today but kept grains off the menu. Nirjal is something I have achieved in the past, for instance, I walked the mountains in British Columbia on 50 kilometres with no food and H20. It is a triumph if you can do it.
After intense hours of the day I went for that needed walk off of Bloor. At the front of St. Paul's Trinity Church, there is this neat monk for sitting, so I took to chanting my evening gayatri mantra under a Saskatoon tree. In the middle of the mantra when a women come to one with camera in her hand. "Can I take a picture?" "Sure!" I said.
