31179490675?profile=RESIZE_584xOn 12 June, Gurukula – The Hare Krishna Primary School (near Bhaktivedanta Manor) hosted its annual Teachers’ Sanga, bringing together educators from across the Vaishnava and local-school communities to explore the practical application of Krishna conscious principles within modern education.

Organised each year by Gurukula, the Teachers’ Sanga provides a valuable opportunity for teachers, leaders and support staff to reflect on how Vaishnava teachings can enrich educational practice and support the holistic development of children. Alongside the Gurukula team, devotee teachers from local schools and staff from the Avanti Schools Trust were invited to participate in this session of professional and spiritual development.

Over the years, the event has welcomed a number of respected speakers, including Urmila Devi Dasi, Rasamandala Das and Svayam Bhagavan Keshava Swami. Their contributions have helped educators deepen their understanding of how timeless spiritual wisdom can be applied meaningfully within contemporary classrooms.

This year’s guest speaker was Bhuta Bhavana Das, a practitioner of Bhakti-yoga for more than thirty years. His spiritual journey began while studying Philosophy and Economics at the London School of Economics, where his interest in Eastern philosophy, meditation and personal development drew him to the Bhakti tradition. Since then, he has delivered presentations at leading institutions including Oxford and Cambridge Universities, as well as throughout Europe, India, Canada and the United States.

Bhuta Bhavana Das specialises in presenting the wisdom of Bhakti in ways that are practical and transformative, with particular emphasis on leadership, relationships and personal spiritual growth.

The theme of this year’s session was Understanding Our Nature and Helping Children Understand Their Nature Through Vedic Teachings. Drawing upon Vaishnava philosophy, Bhuta Bhavana Das explored how educators can nurture children’s spiritual identity and support their development with greater insight and compassion.

A central message of the presentation was the importance of unconditional care and genuine affection in the teacher–student relationship. As educators, teachers play a significant role in shaping a child’s impressions, confidence and sense of self. When children feel genuinely valued and supported, they are more able to express their natural qualities and fulfil their potential.

Bhuta Bhavana Das also highlighted the relevance of Vaishnava teachings on identity in helping young people develop a strong and authentic understanding of themselves. By recognising their nature, children can gain the confidence and clarity needed to make wise decisions, contribute positively to society and cultivate inner harmony.

The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer discussion, allowing participants to explore the topics in greater depth and consider practical applications within their own educational settings. Attendees described the presentation as both thought-provoking and inspiring, with many expressing a strong desire for a follow-up session to continue the discussion.

The annual Teachers’ Sanga remains an important initiative of Gurukula, strengthening connections between educators and fostering a shared commitment to nurturing children through both educational excellence and Vaishnava values.
