Guḍanimba nyāyaḥ (molasses with Neem)
A sick child is given bitter Neem leaves with sweet molasses, to be able to accept the medicine.
Small child does not have sufficient knowledge about curing its disease. When sick, it needs to take bitter medicine. But to enthuse it to do that, one has to give him first a sweet under the condition that it will take unpleasant medicine. Similarly, when educating, the child is first given small and pleasant tasks, and gradually moves towards more complex and demanding.
In spreading applied knowledge of culture of Lord Caitanya, which seem to be complex and demanding , the same strategy is used. First a sweet and tasty halava is distributed, and after accomplishing that stage a practitioner may move up in a ladder of higher spiritual tastes, which actually tastes more sweet than a halava. Indeed, Kṛṣṇa consciousness tastes sweet, whenever one bites it, and sweeter and sweeter at every step. It is only due to liver-like disease that it feels bitter at first.
