Close to 5:30 a.m. this morning, December 2nd, 2021, my dear Godbrother and neighbor for the last 26 years left his body in a room at Southern California Hospital (near the New Dvaraka temple). He had been hospitalized since November 26th, with Covid-19. His son, Ram Nomi, and his daughter, Sitapriya, were chanting with him when he departed. Srila Prabhupada's chanting also accompanied him. Sura had his japa beads and was wearing a Nrsimha pavitra from Mayapura.
We are all unique individuals but Sura was a special unique amongst us. His combination of wit, gruffness, memory and preaching spirit will always be remembered and cherished. He was, above all, a Prabhupada man, completely
dedicated to Srila Prabhupada's mission.
Sura Das was also well known for founding and fronting LA's Temple Bhajan Band. The Temple Bhajan Band is a group of devotional chanters that tour yoga studios, retreats, and various social events throughout the world. They have been together since 1999. The heart of the band was Sura whose voice is well known among practitioners of yoga and interfaith followers.
