(How can the heart be cleared of unnecessary desires?)
The chanting of the Holy Name of the Lord cleanses the mirror of the heart.
(And to be free from the world of mundane relativity?)
The Holy Name extinguishes the fire of misery in the forest of birth and death.
This chanting is the waxing moon that spreads the white lotus of good fortune to all living beings.
(Thus positive goodness can awaken in the heart with unconditional service to the Lord.)
The Holy Name is the life and soul of all education.
Let there be victory for the congregational chanting of the Holy Name of the Lord, Krishna!
O my Lord, your Holy Name alone can render good fortune, thus You have expanded Yourself into hundreds and millions of names, like Krishna and Govinda.
You have invested all Your potencies in those names and are non different from them.
There are no strict rules for chanting or remembering these names.
O my Lord, out of kindness You enable us to easily approach You by Your Holy Name, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.
(The answer how to become attracted : I have nothing and everything is His.)
One who thinks himself lower than the grass, who is more tolerant then a tree, and who gives all honor to others can very easily chant the Holy Name of the Lord constantly.
(A prayer to the Lord for spontaneous devotion without any motive or reward.)
O Lord of the univese, I do not desire material wealth, nor do I the company of beautiful men or women, nor do I want fame or followers.
My only desire is Your causless devotional service, birth after birth.
(And who is He? There are so many different conceptions of God, Lord Caitanya gives the most beautiful conception of God - Krishna.)
O My Lord, O Krishna, I am Your eternal servitor, yet due to my own forgetful actions I have fallen into this horrible ocean of birth and death.
Please pick me up from this ocean of death and place me as one of the particles of dust at Your lotus feet.
My Lord, I am your servant please pick me up and place me at Your lotus feet.
(The petition is answered and the soul has been granted a position, but now he wants more...sponataneous love.)
O my Lord, when will my eyes be decorated with tears of love when I chant Your Holy Name?
When will My voice falter in transcendental happiness as I recite Your Holy Name?
(The devotee thinks there is no limit to progress, the more he goes the more longing he feels, but there is no turning back, lost in the mood of love in separation.)
(This is the perfectional stage of chanting the Hare Krishna mantra and relishing the fruit of love of Godhead.)
Without You my Lord a moment seems like forever.
Tears flow from my eves like torrents of rain.
The world is vacant without You my Lord Govinda!
(We have to take the risk of this love for we are tiny; there is no law in love, we must fully accept the ways of the Lord without any complaint.)
(The intense lover of the Lord is never deviated from his service despite any difficulties and impediments brought before him.)
I know no one but Krishna as my Lord.
Let Krishna tightly embrace this servant, who has fallen to His lotus feet.
He may trample me or break my heart by never being visible to me.
He is completely free to do anything and everything.
He is always the worshipful Lord of my heart, unconditionally.
The chanting of the Holy Name clears the heart and extinguishes the fire of material life.
The Holy Name is a benediction moon for all.
All glories to the Sri Krsna sankirtana (chanting) movement!
O my Lord, please pick me up.
In a humble and tolerant mood we can chant the Holy Name constantly.
Out of the Lord's kindness we can approach Him by His Holy Name.
I renounce everything for devotional service to please the Supreme Lord.
When will my eyes be decorated with tears at the recitation of Your Holy Name?
I feel empty in this world without You my Lord.
I worship the Supreme Lord unconditionally.
Sri Sri Siksastakam1) Glory to the sri-krsna-sankirtana, which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death. This sankirtana movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.
2) O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krsna and Govinda. In these transcendental names You have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names. O my Lord, out of kindness You enable us to easily approach You by Your holy names, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.
3) One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and should be ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.
4) O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire beautiful women, nor do I want any number of followers. I only want Your causeless devotional service, birth after birth.
5) O son of Maharaja Nanda [Krsna], I am Your eternal servitor, yet somehow or other I have fallen into the ocean of birth and death. Please pick me up from this ocean of death and place me as one of the atoms at Your lotus feet.
6) O my Lord, when will my eyes be decorated with tears of love flowing constantly when I chant Your holy name? When will my voice choke up, and when will the hairs of my body stand on end at the recitation of Your name?
7) O Govinda! Feeling Your separation, I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence.
8) I know no one but Krsna as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He handles me roughly by His embrace or makes me brokenhearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything, for He is always my worshipful Lord, unconditionally.
