Some walkers by Bhaktimarga Swami

After getting some dental cleansing done in Brampton, I was kindly driven to my home at 243 Avenue Road, Toronto. Nanda Drove me to the dentist, and Rasaraja drove me for the return. I took my walk accompanied by my japa beads. It was evening darkness now, and a couple passed by. I got that remark from the woman which is quite common, “That outfit you're wearing is really cool.”

“Thanks, and it's really comfortable.”
“Take care,” she said.
“Goodnight!”

I returned back from Ramsden Park, which is just across the road, so ideally located, and prepared myself to end the day. But before that, I rummaged through the meager pile of papers, documents, letters, what have you, that I've accumulated since the start of the year. I came upon a letter from a family friend by the name of Linda. She completed reading my book The Saffron Path and liked it, quoting a few of my remarks like, “More walking and less squawking.” She also liked when I mentioned the Vedic aphorism, “We are not these bodies; we are spirits.”

Linda mentioned in her hard copy letter her own experience walking the Bruce Trail while training for the famous Camino in Spain. Watched to the letter, though, was a clipping from her town's paper, The Mitchell Advocate, informing of a local man, Harry Norris, and how he walked the equivalent of across Canada, which is more than 5100 miles (8200 kms). At 77 years of age, it's not bad at all. It appears he's walked four different causes. In any event, his more than 21 million steps makes him a hero in my books.

  • In this age of extreme KALIYUG it has become trite by neophytes and others so steeped in the inferior maya of the supreme personality of godhead Lord to put on a cover of obscene wealth and opulence. The Lord himself proclaims in the holy Bhagavad Geeta that he hurls those who have not surrendered to him time after time to infernal hell. Quite often laymen, disbelievers and even those who are not steadfast in faith and devotion mock at ISKCON without gleaning its true purport as elaborated by the ISKCON founder

On the contrary those who have surrendered body mind and soul to the Lord are perceived as being poor and several other related adjectives. The fact of the matter can be surmised in the Holy Bhagavad GITA whereas the Lord iterates that the material world can be likened to an upside down tree with roots upwards and branches downwards. if one detaches oneself from this tree using a sharp axe one comes face to face with this ugly witch called maya who is fully subservient to Lord KRISHNA. The reality is that those perceived to be poor and ridden with gargantuan losses and debts are the ones who are opulent and enlightened in the real sense of the world and vice versa for the rascals. Hence it is of paramount importance to adhere to the teachings of Lord KRSNA, SRILA and other prominent ISKCON gurus in order to seek ascension to God Head. As his divine grace upheld that maya is covered by a passing cloud and is temporary. It is not possible for maya to wield her influence for long as is evident in todays age. The patches are evident and the world has become a place of untold death disease old age and decay as was also upheld by Lord Buddha who was only following the teachings of the Supreme Personality of God Head Lord Sri Krishna who was his predecessor by 2500 years. In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy Lords appears millennium after millennium to destroy evil and uplift the poor. Lords lifetimes clearly enunciate as to how he was always on the side of the poor or downtrodden., like Jesus.
