Syamala Dasi, who holds an M.A. in Sanskrit, has opened registration for “Sanskrit for Scriptural Study,” a one-year online course beginning on June 13, 2026 – May 22, 2027, every Saturday at 6.30 A.M IST. Designed for adults, the course aims to help devotees directly understand Sanskrit shlokas and access the wisdom of the scriptures in their original language.
Her journey began in earnest when she taught her twin boys the Sanskrit alphabet about eight years ago. Syamala Dasi previously taught a Sanskrit course called Gaudiya-darshanam — conducted entirely in Sanskrit for her MA classmates — which ran for 18 sessions. She also completed a Level 1 children’s course for students in the United States, finishing 35 sessions over the course of a year, taking students from learning the Devanagari alphabet through to self-composing simple sentences. A parallel children’s course teaching the Bhagavad-gita alongside basic Sanskrit concepts is currently ongoing and has reached Chapter Two.
“Naturally, after the children’s courses, the thing to do was something for adults. And somehow Krishna put together people — many showed interest,” she exclaimed.
