The unavoidable reality is that this material world is a blazing inferno of misery and that we are presently stuck in it burning endlessly in the cycle of birth and death. We may not like to hear this news thinking that it is too negative or too depressing, but the most liberating and ecstatic thing is to precisely know what is real. Knowledge of the truth is empowering and liberating. It is not stifling. Just like if we become diseased, if we know precisely what is our disease, we can then take the proper medicine that will quickly cure us from the disease. If we have no idea that we are diseased or we do not know what is our disease, we cannot effectively deal with the disease and it will get worse and worse.
We have to soberly consider what is our actual situation in this material existence. We want to live forever, but yet death is forced upon us. We would rather stay young and healthy, but old age and sickness are forced upon us. We would rather have an enjoyable stress free life, but yet we are forced to endure so many unpleasant situations even for the simple matter of earning our livelihood.
An intelligent person realizes that there has to be something better than this. This could not be the perfect existence. He then dedicates himself fully to discovering what is the perfect existence and how to attain it. Such a person is helped from within by the Lord within the heart known as the Paramatma or the Supersoul, and he his helped from without by the external manifestation of the Supersoul, the bona fide spiritual master. And by taking full advantage of the Vedic literatures, especially the Bhagavad-gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam, he quickly progresses along the pathway back to home, back to Godhead.
