Shooting star

The kirtana after the class, led by Madhudvisa Swami, was a memorable one. By the time Prabhupada left after the first half-hour, the devotees, dripping with perspiration, were ecstatically running up and down the hot steamy temple room chanting 'Jaya Radhe, Jaya Krsna, Jaya Prabhupada'.

Srila Prabhupada decided to relax on the lawn. Someone brought a chair, and Prabhupada sat in the dark, beneath the stars, enjoying the roaring kirtana. He looked up reflectively, head held slightly back and said, "Madhudvisa has so much energy".

After a few minute's silence a devotee suddenly exclaimed, "Look, Srila Prabhupada, a shooting star." Prabhupada quickly scanned the dark clear sky, and in an almost child-like way asked "Where? Where?" More silence. A few minutes later a light appeared in the sky directly above the roof of the temple, and rose, flashing, until it was directly overhead.

"What's that?" asked Prabhupada. A devotee volunteered an answer, "It's a plane, Srila Prabhupada."

Prabhupada's innocent reply endeared him to the handful of devotees clustered around him. "Of course it is!" he rejoined. "707 or 727?"
