It is too slippery

Prabhupada's instructions to Upendra were often in response to his mistakes. Although Upendra knew that Prabhupada preferred lightly-seasoned prasadam, sometimes he would use too much ghee or spices. One time in San Francisco, Prabhupada had confided in his secretary: "That Upendra is using too much ghee. I cannot taste the prasadam before it slips down my throat. It is too slippery." Although devotees would sometimes cook him special items, Srila Prabhupada was not interested in fancy things. He preferred his simple diet, asking only for the regular items -- dal, rice, chapatis and vegetables.

Today, however, Upendra had decided to prepare something "a little different" -- green bell peppers cooked with sugar -- a recipe lifted straight out of the Australian Women's Weekly Cookbook. After lunch, Upendra learned his latest lesson via Nanda Kumara, who brought Srila Prabhupada's lunch plate downstairs with the all but untouched green mound still intact. The verdict: "Tell Upendra that bell peppers should be cooked with salt, not sugar." Upendra was predictably devastated.
